Formerly the singer and guitarist of grunge trio ‘Inextremis’ and 60’s and 70’s inspired acoustic duo ’the Founders’. ‘Broken Carnival’ was formed in 2002. The name Broken Carnival is taken from the self penned  as yet unreleased song of the same name.

He also plays under the name Grant Huw Phillips and ‘Sleepy G’.

Since the release of 'Home Recodings: Volume One'  in 2004 and the birth of www.brokencanival.4t.com in 2005 he has gained a loyal following of music fans from across the globe.

Although his second collection of home recording was criticised by some due to it's 'rough production' and alternative versions of live favorites, his fan base has contined to grow.

Test pressings of  Volume 3 released in 2007 met with critical aclaim and dispite being the first collection of broken carnival home recordings to utalise digital technology, his music has lost none of it's lo-fi charm.

Live

Live performances consist of versions of tracks from his home recordings and songs by a variety of artists spanning over 100 years, performed on acoustic / electric guitar and ukulele with occasional harmonica or kazoo accompaniment.

Although some set lists appear similar, it is claimed by those in attendance that no two gigs are ever alike. All set lists can be found on the 'Live' page on this site.

'Uke Till You Puke'

Following  an enthusiastic responce to his first ever all ukulele performace in early 2008 Grant has scince comenced his 'Uku' Till You Puke' tour and has dubbed 2008 to be the year of the ukulele revival.
